Management Team


The NovaShunt Management Team is comprised of highly experienced medical, engineering, and scientific professionals.

 

 

Noel L. Johnson, Ph.D., Biomedical Engineer - Founder, President & CEO

Noel has extensive experience in designing medical devices as well as operating and managing start-up medical device companies. He was previously Co-founder and President of HealthTech, Inc., a medical device company. Noel also as has vast experience designing and developing pump technologies and implantable devices through a 13-year tenure at Abbott Laboratories.

 

 

Thomas W. Degen - Chief Technology Officer

Thomas has a long experience in developing medical devices for portable applications, both in hardware and software. Prior to joining NovaShunt, he worked at Caditech, a start-up company which developed a highly cross-linked platform for personal health care applications, where he designed motor-driver ICs and CMOS imaging chips. Thomas has a MS in Electronical Physics from the University of Neuchâtel and is preparing for his Ph.D. exams in EE from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. Thomas is fluent in German, French and English.

 

 

Pedro Eerdmans, MD, PhD, MSc.,- Chief Medical Officer

Pedro has extensive experience in clinical research and medical devices. Prior to joining NovaShunt, he was Medical Director at Biosensors responsible for the global clinical program which included more than 12.000 patients post marketing registries and over 1800 patients regulatory studies. Additionally, Pedro spent many years with Medtronic holding positions as manager in clinical research, ventures and technology development. He holds a PhD in Pharmacology and has more than 5 years hospital experience in orthopaedics and urology. Pedro has authored many peer reviewed papers and holds a patent in the area of wireless pH measurement in the oesophagus. Pedro is fluent in Dutch, German and English.

 

 

Daniel Rose - Vice President of Commercial Operations

Dan spent the past seven years in a number of leadership positions at Medtronic. Most recently, he was Marketing Director for the Coronary and Peripheral Vascular Division in Western Europe. Prior to that, Dan was Business Manager of the Vascular Division in the Nordic region. He also co-founded a medical device company focused on continuous glucose monitoring technology and spent time working on early stage venture capital opportunities. Dan has a BA and MA from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the Darden Business School.

 

 

Wolfgang Werner - Vice President of Quality Management & Operations

Wolfgang has long experience in the area of regulatory affairs and quality management in the medical devices industry; as well as European Regulatory Agencies, mainly dealing with class III devices. Prior to joining NovaShunt AG he was the Head of Regulatory Affairs of Berlin Heart GmbH a leading company of Ventricular Assist Devices. Beside Berlin Heart he held positions at Terumo Heart, Orqis Medical, and TUV Product Service. He spent nine years working in the United States. Wolfgang has engineering degree (Dipl.-Ing.) from the University of Applied Science in Munich, Germany. Wolfgang is fluent in German and English.
