The basic concept was invented by a physician working with ascites patients. The first application of the AFS System which will be launched in Europe in 2010 is dedicated to the treatment of refractory ascites caused by liver disease and congestive heart failure.

The focus of this novel technology is to improve medical outcomes, reduce the health care costs and improve quality of life for patients suffering from refractory ascites or significant fluid overload.
